Girls' and women's empowerment is not simply a women's issue, it's a human issue. We should be moved to ensure that girls and women around the world are able to lead dignified lives, where they have the freedom to make their own choices. Involvement in sports and other forms of recreation allows girls and young women to be part of team, to be united and celebrated, all the while keeping them away from the life-threatening dangers of child marriage, sex trafficking and forced labor. Freedom to play sports and recreate is a human right, as is the freedom of mobility.
