Digital Agenda for Europe

On March 6th, two days before International Women’s Day, Lindsey Nefesh-Clarke, Founder and President of W4 spoke at the European Commission, in Brussels, where she was invited to discuss the transformative power of ICTs as, “catalysts for women empowerment” and how connecting Bangladesh to the digital era brought her to what she is doing now. With a small group of 40 experts, including Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the European Commission, the debate was meant to kick off a new campaign inviting women and men to create a video and share their own digital success story on the “Every Girl Digital” Facebook page, to inspire girls and women to consider the power of tech.

On the 6th of February, W4 Founder Lindsey Nefesh-Clarke spoke at the event organized at La Sorbonne by the association Travel4Change and introduces the evening’s special guest speaker Wasfia Nazreen, the second Bangladeshi woman to climb Mount Everest and Founder of Bangladesh on Seven Summits Foundation which celebrates women’s strength and progress in Bangladesh over the last four decades!

On Sunday, 27th October, Lindsey will be a judge for the UNESCO Youth Forum Startup Weekend in Paris. Co-organized by the global entrepreneurship network Startup Weekend and the US Department of State, this event will focus on Social Business: young people with creative ideas for social business startups will come together in teams and work under mentorship from entrepreneurship experts. The teams will present their project on Sunday afternoon, and the winning team will be rewarded at the 8th UNESCO Youth Forum from 29th-31st October.

W4 Founder and Executive Director Lindsey Nefesh-Clarke collaborated in the “Nos Grandes Ecoles Buissonnières” project, a new crowdsourced book where pioneering social entrepreneurs share their experience of creating and following their own, alternative professional paths. W4 Founder Lindsey Nefesh-Clarke will be leading a workshop during the European Professional Women’s Network’s annual BestOf! conference on June 14, 2013, organized in collaboration with ESCP Europe, on the theme “My Life as a High Po from Age 7 to 77”. Lindsey’s talk, entitled “Equality means business”, will talk about the multiple, far-reaching benefits of improving gender diversity across companies and their value chains.

On May 30, 2013, W4 Founder Lindsey Nefesh-Clarke will be joining fellow young social entrepreneur innovators for a panel discussion at the “Youth We Can” conference in Paris. Other participants include Adrien Aumont, Co-Founder of Kiss Kiss Bank Bank, Christian de Boisredon, Founder of Sparknews, Sarah Toumi, Founder of Acacias for All, along with 800 youth for an evening of debate, discussion and networking on the theme of social entrepreneurship.

For the second consecutive year, W4 is partnering with the French women’s indie music festival “Les Femmes S’en Mêlent” to promote the talents and potential of girls and women across the world at concert venues across Paris and throughout 30 cities in France, from March 18th to 31st. W4 is intensifying its partnership with the festival in 2013 by offering concert-goers the opportunity to provide vital income for members of a women’s bag-making enterprise supported by KAPAI, W4’s field partner in the Philippines, through their purchase of cotton tote bags produced by the women themselves.

In the run-up to International Women’s Day 2013, W4 Founder Lindsey Nefesh-Clarke was invited by the European think tank Friends of Europe to speak at its Policy Insight on Gender and Development Conference in Brussels on March 6, 2013. Discussions centered on the crucial role of women’s empowerment in achieving inclusive and sustainable development. Lindsey joined more than 100 senior stakeholders from European and international institutions as well as representatives of business and civil society, including fellow panelist Dagmar Schumacher, Director of the Brussels Liaison Office of UN Women.
